Happy Birthday Bauhaus

April 1 marks the 90th anniversary of the foundation of the Bauhaus movement in Weimar. The Bauhaus brought us such revolutionary typographers as Moholy-Nagy, Herbert Bayer and Jan Tschichold, who introduced the ideas of “New Typography” to design. The influence of the Bauhaus can be seen in much of today’s graphic design. It would seem even President Obama’s graphic designers had the Bauhaus in mind when they created the victory speech flyers. They reflect the style Jan Tschichold and embrace the ideals of the Bauhaus as they are functional, geometric and use diagonal lines. So happy birthday Bauhaus, no doubt you will be inspiring designers in the years to come!
