Building enormous sculptures, devising underwater ballets, setting stuntmen on fire and making land art across fields and deserts are just some of the performances orchestrated by the artist Storm Thorgerson in the process of creating album covers for bands including Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Muse, Anthrax, 10CC, The Cranberries, The Mars Volta, Genesis and Ian Dury. Thorgerson, creator of the most iconic album cover of the 20th century, Pink Floyds Dark Side of The Moon, is one of the most significant album-cover art designers of the 20th century. This exhibition showcases some of his best known works. Occasionally obscure, often atmospheric and typically ambiguous, these distinctive images possess a narrative surreal quality and cross boundaries between art and commercial design.
